  • Beyond the Mind.

In Proof of Heaven, Eben Alexander writes,

"When it came to Near Death Experiences, there are there basic camps.  There were the believers; either people who had undergone an NDE themselves or who simply found such experiences easy to accept. Then, of course, there were the staunch unbelievers (like the old me). These people didn't generally classify themselves as unbelievers, however.  They simply "knew" that the brain generated consciousness and wouldn't hold still for crazy ideas of the mind beyond the body (unless they were good-naturedly comforting someone, as I had thought I'd been doing with Suzanna that day)."

"The more I learned about my condition, and the more I sought, using scientific literature, to explain what happened, the more I came up spectacularly short. Everything – the uncanny clarity of my vision, the clearness of my thoughts as pure conceptual flow – suggested higher, not lower, brain functioning. But my higher brain had not been around to do that work."

"The more I read of the "scientific" explanations of what NDEs are, the more I was shocked by their transparent flimsiness. And yet I also knew with chagrin that they were exactly the same ones that the old "me" would have pointed to vaguely if someone had asked me to explain what an NDE is."

"But people who weren't doctors couldn't be expected to know this. If what I'd undergone had happened to someone – anyone – else, it would have been remarkable enough. But that it had happened to me…Well, saying that it had happened "for a reason" made me a little uneasy.  There was enough of the old doctor in me to know how outlandish – how grandiose, in fact – that sounded. But when I added up the sheer unlikelyhood of all the details – and especially when I considered how precisely perfect a disease E. coli meningitis was for taking my cortex down, and my rapid and complete recovery from almost certain destruction – I simply had to take serious the possibility that it really and truly had happened for a reason."

"That only made me feel a greater sense of responsibility to tell my story right." Eben.

What I love about this book and "My Stroke of Insight" is how a person with the right and perfect background and formal training has an experience, that they intimately understand and do so while remaining conscious, when medically it is impossible or so we thought…and how they are able to write about it.

Eben was shown how consciousness works by experience and it trumped all his prior learning.  It opened up a completely new space around his neurosurgeon's beliefs.

What I find so fascinating and so enthralling is how so many old beliefs are getting left standing almost silly looking by the sheer fact that People of Knowledge are experiencing what they thought was impossible.  That it is happening to specific people and it does seem to have its purpose.  If to do nothing else but to tip down old belief systems.

I have felt, and do feel, a kinship to these folks, but in a much more normal segment of the population. A regular person who was aware of her journey out of dysfunction.

To find consciousness, clarity and choices while fully knowing my brain was washed and cleansed and twisted by the church and abuse…respectively.

It would seem, that a person such as I, would not be able to "know" what to do, what to say and where to go…that the very person I was trained to be, would the very tool against me.  And yet, I was able to walk clear.

    How?

How was it possible for me to do what others didn't seem able to do?  How was I different than them?  How am I able to see what others can't?  How is it that reality and I are one, while they can't seem to grasp it?

All, I can say is that I too had consciousness on my side. It wasn't my thinking brain that guided me…for it was completely damaged by years of cult like teachings and abuse's definitions…I used a totally different navigational tool…awareness – consciousness…a knowing that I hadn't known before.

Everything that I had known prior was to also be found flimsy and weak, without a string to reality.

The reason I write on this blog is to share my experiences of how abuse looks to an aware mind.  How religion's applications of forgiveness of sins is failing in reality. Without awareness or consciousness…you can only see the unquestioned beliefs…without doubts you will stand steadfast in the clutches of your unfounded beliefs.

I know, that I am seen as "the crazy one" the one who is way out there.  I get it. And, I agree. I am not the usual victim.  I have been able to see my brainwashed mind and the way abuse had it so completely upside down.  And, I have been able to re-work those old definitions to put them back correctly.

I believe that this is the new way forward. That the abused mind/brainwashed cult brain can be overcome…by consciousness.

What I don't know is how to get consciousness, for it just was there for me. When my world shattered into a billion pieces all I was left with was that.  Which actually was much wider and more spacious than any belief I held dear.

I have lost much, but I have gained even more.

I write, for I believe that it will someday make someone else's journey less weird and feel less crazy.

These books legitimize the unbelievable and make a new belief…while kindly ridding us of the old paradigms.

I have felt the strange aloneness, the echoes of no one before me. To be ahead of the time.  To look around and see so many challenging me with this 'weird' way.

It is like there are new experiences coming forth…gaining consciousness.

I wonder what we have called "Near Death Experiences" were actually brushes with consciousness?

For, It changes you forever…knowing there is more beyond the mind.

  • Rapture is felt.

Today everyone is talking about “The Rapture” and my brother and I wondered about its meaning, the word itself.

    Rapture.

    1. overwhelming happiness: a euphoric transcendent state in which somebody is overwhelmed by happiness or delight and unaware of anything else
    2. mystical transportation: a mystical experience in which somebody believes he or she is transported into the spiritual realm, sometimes applied to the second coming of Jesus Christ, when true believers are expected to rise up to join him in heaven
    3. state of great happiness or enthusiasm: a state of great happiness or enthusiasm about something, or words and gestures that express this

Perhaps we can all have a moment of rapture, if you can find something that brings you overwhelming happiness and delight and become unaware of anything else, just immerse yourself in an activity that you forget all things.

For me, it can be in nature or quilting or even reading a really good book, it can be small moments when you are totally present with someone, where only the two of you exist and times slips away.

While some may call this the end of the world, perhaps it is the beginning, the moment in time where only rapture is felt.

  • Unbelievers Live Free.

In my old religion, those who left the church or perhaps those who never entered were called Unbelievers.

These Unbelievers didn’t believe like we did, and in doing so didn’t move about the planet like us. They were ‘allowed’ to do things that good Believers were not allowed to do.

Unbelievers were easy to spot, they had pierced ears, painted fingernails, colored hair, they were allowed to do things with their bodies we were not allowed to do.

Unbelievers also had a say in how many children they would have, or if they wanted any. They had freedoms in their lives we didn’t have.

You could almost see the Believers being stuck and the Unbelievers being free.

It all began and ended with my mind.

When I believed my mind, its thoughts and its beliefs, I gave up my body and my free will. When I didn’t believe, when I became an Unbeliever, I had my freedom back.

It resembles an addiction in how it takes over your life.

My mind became addicted to limiting thoughts.

What is so extremely debilitating is how we are afraid to not believe those thoughts, for those thoughts were taught to us from a very young age.

The thoughts and beliefs become who we are, and to let them go seems to be killing yourself.

Being held prisoner in your own life by thoughts is being the jailer and the jailed.

You have to become an Unbeliever to be set free.

We were taught; Unbelievers go to Hell, so who wants to be free only to spend eternity in Hell.

Isn’t there a saying “What is bound on Earth is bound in Heaven”?

Being bound on earth is how I lived for the first 46 years of my life, being a good Believer of a very mind controlling religion.

Becoming unbound has been a long process and one that has brought me much peace, love and joy…

Unbelieving is unraveling the ties that bind.

    Unbelievers live free.

  • Boldly slips away unscathed.

What struck me last night is that the definitions of good and evil in my childhood home were competing for the upper hand, that my father’s heaven was my mother’s hell, and visa versa.

It truly is that one man’s heaven is another man’s hell.

My father’s heaven depended upon my silence, and my mother’s actually too…she needed the image of his being just a loving dad, and he did too, both sides terrified of hell, if truth be told.

I can see how easily it was to manipulate a child in our home, for the values contradicted each other, the front divided, two roads leading to hell if truth be spoken out loud and unforgiving.

Life was much easier on my father and his pedophile ways, to have silence…it was much easier on my mother, for she didn’t have to know.

She may have heard us tell our stories, but she didn’t have to believe. If you don’t believe the words spoken, you don’t have to act. If you don’t have to act, your life doesn’t change.

It is by far harder to change, than it is to remain committed to the cause.

The cause of us remaining all together.

My father’s hell was the truth.
And actually my mother’s hell is the truth as well.
They lived in heaven in silence.

But for me, the truth has set me free.
Hell is being quiet…Heaven is speaking out loud and often.

I can see how many a child faces the same thing, that the adults in the room lose big time, if the child speaks, that the ones holding our survival need us to play along, pretend and hold up the façade.

As my friend said, “what will people think” if they knew what was really going on.

We are to act like it is heaven, while dancing in hell, going with the flow, following the lead of those taking “care” of us.

Preachers preach of the evil on the outside, while we are imbedded in the camp of evil on the inside.

What is up and what is down, who is right and who is wrong, or is our camp of evil far reaching?

The compound has its own boundaries that reach far and wide.

I know that when I first discovered the evil in my childhood, I quickly seen the churche’s evil, and then even the law of the land.

Claiming to be the fighters of evil, while many are incapable to actually combat it when they see it face to face.

When evil knocks at their door, some bless it.
Some reduce the charges and set it free.
Some open up their homes allowing access to more little girls.
Some love evil as a way to heaven.

The list is long and powerful.

We are dancing with the devil each time evil knocks and we treat it with goodness, kindness, fairness, compassion, etc.

Evil dances in our faces, showing us all that it is, an unruly force, taunting our weak defenses, it boldly slips away unscathed.

  • Devils in Disguise.

I am finally seeing how literally birds of a feather flock together, clinging to the same version of heaven and hell, love and fear, good and evil, that depending upon your level of awareness and type of energy you carry, your heaven will reflect that.

Somehow heaven on earth seemed to be a statement or a flight of fancy, perhaps a daydream or a wishful idea, but we all have our heaven on earth and we all flee from what we think hell on earth would be.

And sometimes a tragedy happens and you arrive at hell in an instant, your worst fears are realized.

Walking through hell changed the energies within me, little by little the negative energies were replaced with positive ones, until the balance tipped and I no longer was the same inside.

Oddly what I called hell was actually the place where I found my positive energies.

I found pieces of myself I didn’t know were missing, patches of self-esteem long forgotten, newfound love, bits of passion, parts of authenticity, chunks of courage, that slowly arrived as I trudged through hell.

Hell before was reality, and reality now became my new heaven.

I am not sure I can articulate this wonderful view that I now have of where I was and where I am, how walking through the ring of fire totally transmuted me inside.

I know my family came close to the fire, were singed and burned, some came in for a short while, but the heat was too strong, the truth seared their illusion, and they scurried back to safety, to their old life, to old habits and routines, catching a glimpse of hell and retreating.

When they fled, I went in deeper, and explored all the caves of hell, looking for the self I had lost there.

Imagine I found myself in hell!

In the darkest of moments, during the most excruciating sorrow out I popped.

The me who went into hell and the me who walked out bear little resemblance to each other, we are not the same lady inside.

It is then no wonder that I respond to my family different and they to me, that our hells don’t match nor do our heavens, for my hell became what I call magical and transforming and filled with grace.

While I wouldn’t wish my hell on anyone, it is the greatest thing that ever happened in my life, it has transformed me in ways just regular old life can’t do.

I can’t remember how the country song goes exactly, but something about when your going through hell, keep on going, get out before the devil even knows your there….

But what if the devil is the truth, and you keep going, not stopping for it and you slip out before the truth catches you…what have you escaped, Heaven or Hell?

It is so intriguing to me to see that perhaps our heavens and hells do match, but that you haven’t become aware…that you are dancing with angels who are really devils in disguise.
