I M Perfect lady

Weekend Fun!

I started the weekend, making Salsa with my daughter…we made two batches, ending up with 14 quarts.

She picked up our ingredients from the Farmers Market in Green Bay.

On Sunday, Ann and I dyed about 8 yards of fabric…7 hours flew by.  Two women totally immersed in dyeing, just like the fabric.

I turned my kitchen into a play area…with the counter's covered, we could just focus on dye and how we wanted to manipulate the fabric. Spills and drips didn't matter.

Here are our first two pieces in the dye water.  Immediately we loved the color.

Meanwhile outside is our soda ash treated fabric drying….

The before and after is striking.  How can you not love the process of dyeing?  Seeing the fresh colors is incredible, and of course my favorite part to see them hung on the line.

Loving the Orange!

It is always a surprise to see what comes out…how the way we twist and fold the fabric creates a wonderful design.

My favorite piece of the day is this one.  I love how it formed by twisting it around a dowel and then scrunching it down and tieing it with floss.  It will be water on a quilt soon.

Thanks girls…I will enjoying using what we made!

    Beth,
I am still washing out the reds. Haven’t checked on the third wash-out, yet but hope this is it. First washout-dye-catchers were as red as the fabric.
The gold fabric came out clear in the sink and the turquoise is still to be washed.
I am exhausted but it is a great kind of tired. Now, that I have been helped through the dye process by a pro–I’ll be fearless on my own and I’m going to go through every piece of fabric in my studio looking for pieces which could be over-dyed. That was great fun.

Ann, the reds are the worst….but so pretty. I hope they still look red!
I too am tired, but it was a fun day! I can’t wait to see the pieces now in an Art Quilt!
You will do wonderfully, now that you know there is nothing scary about it. You are just playing with colors and white fabric.
I too will be looking for fabric to dye, it makes it even more surprising!
A good day with a good friend!

I love some of those so much I wouldn’t want to cut them up!
Just sew two similar fabrics right sides together on three sides leaving an opening for my head and arms and I’d dance around the house feeling the fabric move with me and feeling totally free!
