  • Returns to being good.

What a multifaceted catch 22 it is when society is asking that the children of abuse be the ones to stop it. To be the ones to name their perpetrator, to come out of their cages of captivity and walk freely with courage seems insurmountable.

What it fails to realize is the condition of the conditioned mind and how it has programmed the child or the adult child to bow down to authority, to keep silent and suffer in silence.

We have been taught by experiences to go it alone and to keep to ourselves our selves, to not expose or share the feelings part of us, but instead walk around with a veneer finish that covers our truths.

We have lived mostly as the veneer and have not allowed the real self to peep through and now in order to stop the abuse we have to completely reverse this.

The veneer has to fade to the back and what comes forth is all we have tried to keep hidden. We have to now present to the world the very thing that terrorized us.

Imagine? We are the ones who stop the monster, we whose power they took, now have to come forward fearlessly.

And yet, as odd as this seems, as backwards and as upside down, the very step in sharing your wounds is the very thing you need to begin building your strength and courage, it will help define who you are from the base of truth.

To speak your truth of who you are and what happened to you, who you fear and why, are truthful utterances of your journey in life, your biography and pathology, what has made you you. You then are able to see and feel that IT isn’t you that is bad, but them. You are not the problem, they are.

And, by having a veneer, also shows the lack of support and caring you had. It literally shows how untreated you are.

If, you had to ‘hide’ your abuse, it shows that you lived in an abusive home. For if you lived in a loving caring home, the abuse would have been treated, you would have been lovingly cared for and nurtured and the Bad Man/Woman would have been put away as so not to harm another.

When the bad man/woman is not put away, we are left to feel bad and actually are told to put away our wounds.

What an odd show and tell it now requires in order to stop more generations, we have to show who the monster is and then our wounded self returns to being good.

  • My Body, My mind and My Spirit.

Something magical happens when you are forced, as in my case, to stand without secrets, to be bare unto the world, to have nothing hidden out of sight, when your worst fears and beyond are realized, you are exposed and free.

I didn’t seem to have a choice, my incest was uncovered the same time that my father was exposed as a pedophile, and yet in the moment of time, while it seemed as if I would die in shame, I sprung forth with a new resolve to live openly and decided I would carry no more secrets in my pocket.

I would instead own this legacy of abuse and I would live my life fully aware of where I came from and how it formed me into who I was today. I understood all my idiosyncrasies and me perfectly, they were all birthed in abuse.

Once I accepted that all the mess was from where I grew, I could then begin to grow in ways that were different.

While you are holding on to secrets, the secrets are holding on to you and you are not free to heal and move beyond them, but once you agree that it is time for you to accept the truth of your roots, you begin changing out of abuse.

How tragically sad that we can’t share with the world our deepest wounds that unlike cancer it is a shameful disease and while we keep it hidden in the deep pockets of our bodies, our bodies are not free our spirits are not free and we are in a prison of silence.

Yet we hold the key that unlocks the door of shame. We have to be brave enough to align ourselves with our past’s reality. We have to have the courage to look upon the secrets that our families carry, our legacy that few will speak of but all know.

The truth is what sets you free…and the willingness to lose all you are, to become someone you have never met, the person you were prior to abuse.

My body and I have an agreement, we will no longer hide truths, we will speak our feelings always, regardless of the consequences, we have a bond now, a sacred bond, we are one…my body, my mind and my spirit.

  • My body knows

David Hawkins writes in his book, “Power vs Force” the experiment he preformed on the body’s reaction to artificial sweeteners.

First of all here is the test.

“It takes two people to perform a kinesiological test. Choose a friend or a family member for testing. We’ll call him or her your test subject.

    1. Have the subject stand erect, right arm relaxed at his side, left arm held out parallel to the floor, elbow straight. (you may use the other arm if you wish.)

    2. Face your subject and place your left hand on the right shoulder to steady him. Then place your right hand on the subjects extended left arm just above the wrist.

    3. Tell the subject to resist when you try to push his arm down.

    4. Now push down on his arm fairly quickly, firmly and evenly. The idea is to push just hard enough to test the spring and bounce in the arm, not so hard tha the muscle becomes fatigued. It is not the question of who is stronger, but whether the muscle can “lock” the shoulder joint against the push.

Assuming there are no physical problems with the muscle and the subject is in a normal relaxed state of mind, receiving no extraneous stimuli (for this reason it’s important that the tester no smile or otherwise interact with the subject), the muscle will “test strong” – the arm will remain locked. If the test is repeated in the presence of a negative stimulus (for instance, artificial sweetener), “although you are pushing down no harder than before, the subject’s arm will fall to his side.”

“Initially, the most striking finding of kinesiology was a clear demonstration that muscles instantly become weak when the body is exposed to harmful stimuli. For instance, if a patient with functional hypoglycemia put sugar on his tongue, upon muscle testing, the deltoid muscle (the one usually used as an indicator) instantly went weak. Accordingly, it was discovered that substances that were therapeutic to the body made the muscles instantly become strong.”

Below is another example of the reaction of the body and artificial sweeteners.

“In addition to its inclusive applicability, the test was quick, simple and easy to perform, and highly decisive; all researchers confirmed the absolute replicability of test results. For example, an artificial sweetener made every subject test weak, whether placed on the tongue, held in its package adjacent to the solar plexus, or hidden in a plain envelope (the contents of which neither the tester nor the subject knew).”

“That the body responded even when the mind was naïve was quite impressive. Most practitioners did their own verification research, placing various substances in plain envelopes and having a naïve second person test a third. The overwhelming conclusion was that the body would indeed respond accurately, even when the conscious mind was unaware.”

“ The reliability of the testing experience never ceased to amaze the public and patients – and, for that matter, the practioners themselves. When I was on the lecture circuit, in audiences of 1,000 people, 500 envelopes containing artificial sweetener would be passed out to the audience, along with 500 identical envelopes containing organic vitamin C.

The audience would then be divided up and would alternate testing each other. When the envelopes were opened, the audience reaction was always one of amazement and delight when they saw that everyone had gone weak in response to the artificial sweetener and strong in response to the vitamin C. The nutritional habits of countless families across country were changed due to this simple demonstration.”
    David Hawkins

What I find so fascinating and thrilling is that the body doesn’t need a mind per say in order to understand what makes it strong or weak. It knows what is true and what is not.

It doesn’t even care about what it is that is brought in front of it, it merely responds favorably to truth, always.

It has no story or past belief, it just knows. It doesn’t care about a future disappointment or promise, it just responds.

Put something artificial in front of it and it goes weak.

I have a greater faith in my body responding without prejudice than my mind.

    My body knows…

  • Willing to Hear.

Two years ago on Easter Sunday I began this blog. At the time, I felt that I would have something to say to help other women who found themselves lost in their own lives, and instead I have found it was all for me.

The amount of clarity that I have gotten from asking questions with an open mind, willing to explore and delve into thoughts and beliefs is beyond what I could have imagined.

The blog seems like a very trusting confidant and yet the key in keeping it real is that it is wide open for all to read.

Writing to me has become another Art form and something that I believe will now be part of who I am…an Author who helps me be me.

The truth arises when you are willing to not know the answers…but willing to hear.

  • Living Alive

The word comfortable is a word that will not always speak the truth, it will not say as much about the surrounding reality, but rather your state of being.

How do I explain being comfortable in a dysfunctional home, to be surrounded by stress and pain and be at ease and pain free?

As I dug around in my past, in my feelings and in my head, I discovered that the only way was to deny myself.

I looked up the word denial, but this time I seen it from my point of view, from the self.

Denial… A refusal to comply with or satisfy a request.

I never denied the other person or request, but I denied myself.

I was comfortable denying myself, not looking at myself and instead used myself to make others happy. I knew that girl.

I was comfortable in my role and in knowing what she had to do, I looked at the other and what they needed and complied.

I never looked at me as me, or me alone. I was a very comfortable not looking at me. I could only see me as what I was for other people, there was no me alone.

In a dysfunctional, incestual home, in a place where you are hurt, it is best to not look at yourself, it is best to become absent of self.

Imagine I was comfortable without a self in the midst of being surrounded by pain, stress, and anxiety. I had to deny my feelings in order to stay there, and I did.

Being self less is denying any request of the self. I was shut down to hearing or feeling my self.

I had no connection to me, the lines were severed, I was pain free, for I was so disconnected.

    Comfortably unattached.

When I became attached to the truths of my life, then discomfort met me, and my comfortable detachment disappeared.

My security blanket was to keep me separated from my life and the truth that lay beneath.

    Denial kept me comfortable.

Isn’t it amazing that denial is comfortable? Denial of self allows you to stand among uncomfortable people and places… you simply don’t bring your feelings or knowing there, you leave your self to be there.

As I sat there in wistfulness of missing the old me, the part I missed was their reception of me, how they received me, not how I wasn’t there.

What I know now is that they don’t like it when I bring me, when I have requests and when I don’t comply, they only want the me that doesn’t have a me there.

They want me to be without a self.

A self less me, to leave my self behind, to come without her…

    I don’t leave home without her…now.

The differences in the way I live now compared to the way I lived before is with me or without me.

Before I wasn’t there, did not exist, was living a few feet behind my life, numb shut down unaware.

The new me is alive and aware and right here, feeling and dealing in this now moment, no longer denying her inner requests.

The striking differences between living a life with a self inside, to hear her voice, to make her choice, compared to living a life without her, is an ocean of difference, it is like living dead or living alive.

  • Taking the same steps.

I backed away from people who hurt me, I retreated from untruths, receded from supporting religions, I moved from co-dependency, I pulled myself back from all the places that seemed to support dysfunction and it seems I landed in a corner with my back pressed against the walls of truth, and I now am standing alone.

Perhaps this is how we enter into Heaven, we come alone with our suitcases fully packed with our lessons, our truths spilling out, our journey’s pivotal moments all stacked up like final exams waiting to be scored.

Did I pass? Can I fail? How will I know?

Sometimes it seems that in separating my truth from fiction, I have backed myself right out of my life.

It is like I am at the end of my fictional life and a toddler in my new life.

Simultaneously dying and being born, grieving while celebrating, saying good-bye and saying hello, a stranger and a new friend all living as me.

It is like doing your own autopsy searching for the cause of death and witnessing your birth while being born, all at once.

My greatest challenge is to find a new place to stand without the exhaust fumes of lingering fears clouding up my new self.

To live fearlessly after knowing great fear, and not pack too much of the past into the present, be aware but not wary.

Just as horses where blinders to shield them from scary things, I wear blinders that seem to shield me from good things. I wear them backwards.

These blinders of immense fear stop me from seeing other alternatives.

A wise woman kindly suggested removing the blinders, and letting in a view from the side.

To see if perhaps there is a way to release the high emotions and find common ground where we are looking in the same direction but with two different sets of eyes.

Self absorbed and selfish, is wearing blinders. Even if the blinders are made out of fear, they are blinders nonetheless.

As a horse who has traveled so long relying on just one set of eyes, I am fearful in allowing others to see…with me or maybe for me.

And to take my eyes off my road seems careless.

Yet this one eyed view in a relationship, renders the other blind.

Fearlessly I will have to take my eyes off my journey and look into his.

And then perhaps when our eyes join together we will see a perfect view.

Like getting the perfect pair of glasses that correct the distortion in our eyesight.

I recall reading somewhere, that if two people are exactly alike as a couple, then one of them isn’t necessary. What I need isn’t someone who sees like me, but rather someone who sees what I don’t see.

It doesn’t mean I give up my view, but I include his, and perhaps then we can find a place where we can walk together seeing differently but taking the same steps.

  • A place for me to stand.

The stressful thought is if my husband does nothing or if my husband supports friends of this cheating husband, my daughter will not be able to find her integrity, that he is a sign post of ambivalence.

I looked up the meaning of ambivalence.

    1. conflict of ideas or attitudes: the presence of two opposing ideas, attitudes, or emotions at the same time
    2. uncertainty: a feeling of uncertainty about something due to a mental conflict
The coexistence of opposing attitudes or feelings, such as love and hate, toward a person …

Do you know, I did not know that ambivalence was uncertainty or the coexistence of opposing attitudes.

I thought ambivalence was more like indifference or a knowing and not caring.

Ambivalence is exactly what my husband shows, conflicting ideas or attitudes.

And his ambivalence has me feeling uneasy and even my viewing him in a new light has put me in my own place of ambivalence towards him.

I no longer am sure of my feelings towards him.

    My ambivalence is showing.

It seems we feel ambivalent when there are conflicting positions both within him as well as between him and I or visa versa, ambivalence abounds.

We can’t know how this all ends, for it all depends on what we pick and what we have to compromise on and what is being asked in front of our integrity.

I believe it is easier to sit with ambivalence, undecided, unknowing, than it is to sit with knowing and not caring.

I understand the wrestling match that can go on for a long while, for we continually compromise small things in order to get along, but there does seem to come a time when all bets are off, when the relationship is asking too much or we lose too much to maintain that relationship.

My husband’s experiences in life hasn’t required him to divorce folks who were asking him to chose his innocence over the man who abused him.

And in fact my learning how to walk away from an abusive family has strengthened my knowing that relationships can cost you your self. And sometimes in order to save yourself, you have to walk away.

We have lived with much ambivalence in the past 6 years for sure, in fact we learned to not promise love, but I love you today, for we understood that love is an individual and personal thing, and there does come a time, when we part to save ourselves.

I can’t predict the outcome, but I can see the ambivalence line waving in front of us, the line is there and which side will we pick?

While my husband sits in ambivalence, I have already chosen my side, and I am not sure what or if I will be asked to compromise or if I will know it is time to go.

Interesting to know that I am not anxious or wanting to control, but that I am feeling the feelings of ambivalence.

The feelings of unknowing which way this will go.

And if our relationship can handle the outcome, but what I do know is that so far I have always been further ahead leaving and maintaining my sense of integrity.

My ambivalence is he being ambivalent and not choosing sides, but you know, this is his greatest feature, to slide and not chose sides.

Is that possible to not have to pick?

    To live in ambivalence?

I used to live there, so I guess it is, until the Universe asks you to choose, you can live in both places, get along with both sides, float over the line unless there are repercussions, no harm is done.

Maybe he never has to pick.
Maybe that isn’t his way, but it appears to be mine.

I am grateful I am no longer lost in ambivalence, I am happy I found a place for me to stand.

  • My mind now knows it.

My feelings are like energy magnets and they seem to either be drawn to someone or pushed back, I am unable to steer my feelings, they have a life of their own.

I can be friends with someone, and then they do something that changes who they are, and I don’t even have to wonder what to do, inside of me the desire to be with them changes and I move away.

Some will say the friendship or love began to cool, and what I believe happens is new information comes in and it changes the ingredients of their energy system. And then we act differently, it isn’t a conscious thought, but unconsciously our body is leading us.

I am now very astute as far as my body’s signals are, even a slight change sends a ripple across the water inside of me.

In the past I believe my insides were very choppy waters so I couldn’t tell if an outside stress was stressing me, for the insides were already such a mess, it is like looking for ripples on 8ft waves.

Each time a new ripple comes in I stay with it, I discern where it is coming from, what is going on in my world, and who is carrying it?

My body doesn’t lie; it knows when something in my world is off kilter, when peace has been disturbed, when an untruth has walked into my space.

Hints to my dis-ease float to me, unannounced and land like odd objects in an otherwise normal world, beckoning me to notice. If I miss one, a second one appears like messengers relentlessly waking me up.

Once you notice these mess enders, the mess in my understanding clears up, and I see clearly.

What I see isn’t always what I want, but what I need to see.

I used to dismiss these signals and over sedate my body so I didn’t feel their uncomfortable truths, now I know if I don’t get the first message the problem doesn’t go away, I am just wanting to play in denial.

The land of denial is only a temporary home, a respite on a journey towards the truth, and it seems the longer you put it off, the more you have to face in the end.

I now prefer to face things one at time and as they happen, and to see the nuances and changes in people’s personalities and stay recent with the affects of their behaviors, so that we are not familiar strangers.

My daughter’s face is familiar but everything else is getting stranger and stranger, my body no longer is comfortable with the ‘truth’ that she presents, it seems to be a token or crumb tossed my way to chew on, and bit by bit I am being fed a book full of lies to deflect me away from who she really is.

To be honest, I wish my body believed what my ears are hearing, it would be so much easier, but they disagree and there is dis ease inside of me.

My body is a lie detector and my mind now knows it…

  • Until she can find her own.

The hardest part of being a mom is when your child takes an exit that you didn’t see coming and they seem to disappear from the usual landscape and it leaves you separated.

And I am not even sure what exit she took, where she is or what her intentions are, just that she has left the lane of what was and is now heading down a road that neither of us are familiar with.

As I continue to travel down my regular road, off to the side is this other lane of unfamiliar nagging at me, this road from my view is full of potholes and hairpin curves with disappearing drop-offs and my daughter seems blind to all its hazards.

I am not certain if she is at a wayside unsure or if she is going forward with a full head of steam.

I am not even sure what is making me uneasier, her being on that road or not knowing if she is sitting down in wonder or going further into its complicated bends.

Our voices have been silenced. But all that seems to be happening now is a silent movie, where the drama continues, but I can’t hear the words.

The not knowing is far worse, I believe than knowing.

In the knowing, I know and can deal.

It is like her life has slipped from my view.

This almost seems like the far end of a spectrum, one being you are doing too much in a child’s life, overtaking it and this is the complete opposite, where you are completely taken out.

In the middle of the spectrum are two people who allow the other their lives, we share and explore and understand their individual journeys.

I am wondering how to hook our roads back up, how to join them together in a way that honors and gives space, in a way that respects our differences, but allows us to trust each other.

Is there a way two people can be together on two different roads?

As women we have lots in common and I am sure it is harder when I have more experience and I have been her superior as her mother for all these years, but is there a bridge that we can stand upon and share our views?

I will have to let go of my fears and my ‘know it all’ attitude and let her show me the landscape of her new world, I will have to be a visitor to a foreign land.

It truly feels like two distinct worlds.

Yet I believe and feel that I have traveled the world she is going into, so it isn’t that foreign to me, perhaps it is only new and exciting to her, she is the foreigner not I.

What is so perplexing is that you never leave reality, this is an inward journey, you are traveling away from your essential self.

Away from your morals, your values, your worth, your self esteem, your dreams, your passions, your soul. Into a world of secrets, lies and deceit…heading towards a self that is unfamiliar, foreign.

It is the road to no you.

You are being lured down this road by a friendly face that is the façade of negative energies, manipulating you with false promises and pretty lies.

If she were to travel this road alone, He would be her only guide.

What I want is to walk with the two of them and give the real story, like Paul Harvey’s ‘the rest of the story’.

Yet he knows and perhaps she knows too, that I will be the story wrecker, I will unveil the pretty lies and unravel the promises and make them as they are empty.

So what scares me the most is that my familiar voice will be drowned out by his, that she will tune me out and turn a deaf ear to my words and cling to his.

Her life in its innocence doesn’t have a voice of her own.

I am sure she feels the pull between him and I, both of us wanting her. And what I want the most is for her to have a separate voice from both of us, but I don’t feel she has one for her self as yet. I see her as a girl who confused and twisted and wants to have love and attention but it comes with such a price tag, her self worth.

I can almost understand the twist between what he says and how she feels.

His promise land is a secret place and it can’t reach the light of day.

In order for her to travel down his road, she lies to me.

What I want most is for the lies to stop.

Lies to herself and lies to me, both are taking a toll on her.

It is so telling to see what lies can do to your spirit, you can literally see her growing darker.

The truth will set your Spirit free!

The two roads I see in my minds eye is the road of lies and the road of truth. One road darkens and leads you away from self and the other will support and Lighten who you are.

You wonder what makes some travel into the darkness and what makes others travel towards the Light. What decides this and can they make a U-Turn?

I will do as any good mother or women who see another descending into the darkness will do. I will give her my voice until she can find her own.

  • It Is what It is.

When they say, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” I also feel that truth can be viewed the same way. We only see what we want to see and disregard the rest.

I also believe we can only see the truth as deep as we have explored our own truths, we simply can’t go where we haven’t been.

As I lived on the surface of my life for 46 years, I also was satisfied with being on th surface in others lives, I didn’t want to go deeper or explore the depths of relationships, I nervously just skated along on the top.

Assuming lots and giving yards and reams of allowances, knowing I guess that if I pushed the matter, they would fall short of what my impressions held and then I would be faced with something I was unwilling to do anything about.

Or intuitively I knew or feared that there was something to fear deeper in me, and there was.

The truth we see is only as deep as our own truths go, and we give leeway to others so not as to upset our own applecarts.

Reality’s truths are always right in the open, but we can see only the tip of the iceberg until we have dived deeply into our own journey and have explored all the crevices and valleys of pain and suffering, of what made us to be who we are today.

While most feel that we can just take a quick look and move one, what they are too afraid of knowing is that all they have built their lives upon isn’t what they thought it to be.

If you are a fearless truth seeker of yourself, you can then witness the truth as it appears in others, and not put a cloak or veil upon what lies behind their words and deeds, you can see clearly what it is they so desperately don’t want you to see.

Like having truth vision. I am still duped when I want someone to be something that it is impossible for them to be, when my dreams override their truths.

But in the end truth wins, not yours or mine, but reality’s truth. It simply is what it is!
