“Only folks with something to hide, hide something”

I was over at http://extoots.blogspot.com/ blog and reading the 38 comments on the post that mentioned my blog, and was struck by the anonymous comments.  And in fact commented, misspelling the word, anonymous. 

But it got me to thinking about how we use the word and why.

If someone won’t use their name, can we trust what they say?

Do you think people speak more truthfully when under an assumed name, or is the content more believable when you use your real name?

I know that many of the stories in the tabloids are quoted with an anonymous source…and do reputable magazines use anonymous sources to get their info? 

Why is there comfort or protection in the word anonymous?

In my opinion, it seems most not only want to remain anonymous, but they also want our abuse to do the same.

There is a weird twist going on here that seems unclear and confusing.

So, you either have to change your name and speak the truth or you have to change the truth and use your name…. 

But to use your name and speak the truth that is just unacceptable and is seen as vindictive… that doesn't make any sense.

The only conclusion I can possibly come to is that not all are comfortable with their own stories and they want them to remain anonymous, our speaking out threatens their anonymous status.

For truly, I am not threatened in the least by anyone saying their truth, but I do feel I am being jerked around and used when they speak anonymously.

The conversation is unfair, it is tilted, and they are jabbing at me while hiding behind a curtain.  I don’t have their full stories, their names, where they live, how they live etc, I just get words without supporting evidence.

Anonymous allows you to hide who you are, why?

Why hide?

What do you have to hide? 

What do you not want us to know?

    That’s the only way they can Beth, to hide. It’s all they know how to do.

    Beth, would you prefer the thread on extoots be deleted? I want to do whatever helps you and Jim in your healing journeys and also, whatever will shed light on abuse in Laestadian churches. (I do think it is related to doctrine, and have discussed that in previous posts.) The comments from anonymous FALC members reveal the kind of atmosphere that allows abuse to remain hidden, and those who leave to be shunned, and I think that is very instructive. However, you will continue to get slammed as long as there is a forum allowing anonymous comments. Please email me directly with your thoughts. Thank you.

    Thanks for your concern Julie,
    Thanks for moderating the blog and yet keeping the dialogue going. I agree that there needs to be a discussion, yet the anonymous button has people talking that would remain silent if they had to show their face.
    I don’t believe you should delete them, for that is who they are and they are showing folks who they are by how they write, much better than I could write about them.
    The nature of their energies are not conducive for any victim to bring in details that doesn’t match their already formed opinions of their religion.
    The closed mindedness shows you how hard it will be to open them up to accept another view.
    I am not hear to change their minds so much as I am blogging to heal myself…and I know that is what Jim is doing as well.
    This discussion needs to go on and if you can keep the tone reasonable, leave it be…if not you may have to shut it down. I would love the ‘otherside’ to blog and show us the opposite of our experiences.
    I want to see the details of this religion works in a beautiful way. For my experience has it with a dark shadow in every corner.
    thanks for your concern….we will see how it goes. Just keep being you and I will be me and as it organically moves, you will know when enough is enough. Me too.

    Mari, I deleted your comment for I don’t know who you are. From this point forward I will only allow comments of people who tell me who they are.
    Having a conversation while someone is hiding is not conducive in moving this topic forward.
    It is my personal option, for this is my personal blog and I pay for monthly to have this right. I highly suggest those who are begging for space to open your own blog.
    I will gladly converse with folks who show me who they are. I don’t like it when I don’t know.
