Freedom to be.

Memorial Day is often about those who fought for our freedom, and less about whether we are using the Freedom they fought for.  If we are trying to eliminate freedoms from others, what did they fight for?

It seems that we want freedom for others, as long as those freedoms align with our beliefs.

We want others to be free to be just like us.

What if we instead allowed others to be free.

Truly free.

Free to be unlike us.

Free to believe differently.

Free to look differently

Free to be religious or spiritual in ways they find peace, not in your God's Peace.

Free to do what is right in their lives, with their own bodies and to celebrate love in ways they feel most loved.

How broad is your sense of freedom?

Whose freedom are you trying to control in order for your beliefs to be right.

I became much less judgmental after losing my religion.

And, the less control I want over others, the more allowing I can be.

The more I want to be me with integrity, the more I want to honor others and their paths.

I don't have to agree with everyone.

I don't have to like everyone.

I however, want everyone to be free to be themselves.

Regardless of how it appears to me and the rest of the world.

Many have died for our freedom, so let's allow each of us the freedom to be!

Mostly I agree. Freedom to be…. sounds so very … liberating. We have to remember–with freedom comes responsibility. If one’s -free to be–steps on others–sometimes we have to let go of the warm and fuzzy feeling and fight for the rights of the downtrodden….which brings me to Memorial Day. It is always a day set aside to honor those who fought for our freedom. Once again–there is that fine line– we can live and let live….but when it comes to something we strongly believe is right–we do have to fight. Its all about balance… There are those who believe that pedophilia is a natural and good thing.. There are those of us who will NOT respect that and will fight it. Keep writing and inspiring and making us THINK ,dear Beth!

I found this particular blog of yours so interesting that I kept thinking about it. Shows that you are doing a good job, Beth. You are so on the mark about how we should respect others no matter race, creed, color, etc. When you think of it- those who fought and died were of every race, creed, color, sexual orientation etc.,… By not respecting the freedom of others to just be who they are… as long as it hurts nobody else- well- we are not respecting the sacrifice of those who fought! You have really brought up a valid point. How many people with flags out for Memorial Day—- are prejudiced?

Thanks Judy for your thoughtful response. I agree that we need to think about what freedoms we are allowing and what freedoms we believe we can limit. We often think of freedom, but not the contents of what we think freedom is.
And, typically it is the freedoms we believe in, and we are not as considerate of freedoms we ourselves are not affected by. Or we ourselves are not limited from.
And, are wars really necessary when we allow others to live freely. And, that goes for all of humanity. Most often it is the males who are oppressing females.
Just lots to consider and I am glad you felt the same way about considering freedoms.
