Hit and Abandoned

I was halfway through my route, when a Bright Blue Ford Pickup Truck blew a stop sign and hit the back of my jeep, swinging me sideways, almost hitting vehicles parked at the Feedmill Cafe.

I caught the bright blue flash, as it barreled towards me, and before I could finish the thought, I was struck hard!

When I stopped I looked around for the truck, and it was nowhere to be seen.

This was a hit and run.

I am okay.

But, sadly the jeep is not.  It runs down the road, but it is wounded.

I felt so violated by that truck.

Who strikes a vehicle and keeps on going, never looking back to see if I was okay.

The debris from both our vehicles littered the intersection.

I called the police.

I wanted there to be a report.

The officer, wasn't very helpful.

I hadn't moved the strewn pieces until he arrived.  Once he surveyed the scene – I went to pick up the pieces.  I found a piece that didn't belong to me, it was from a Ford. Which is why I know it was a Ford Truck.  Part of his headlight and blinker.

My husband came and changed my tire and looked over the jeep to see if it was okay to continue on the route – it was.

Needless to say, my day had a punch to it.

The main thing is I wasn't hurt – just a bit sore from the jarring whip, but okay.

And, the jeep is drivable until it gets into the body shop.

My license plate lay crumpled in the snowbank. Looking like I felt – hit and abandoned.

So maddening! And why wasn’t that officer more helpful? Jerks both of them the cop and the driver. I’m so glad You’re ok but it was scary I’m sure. And it will start with you for a while in sure.

    Beth,
So sorry this happened to you and so delighted you are OK. Alert all the local body shops regarding the headlight and blinker. If this guy is from the Pelkie/Baraga area he might use the car parts place in Baraga to replace that light. Also, call other police departments in the area and alert them to the bright blue parts missing truck. They are on patrol all the time and can keep an eye out for it.
Tell everyone you know! Someone is driving around in a bright blue Ford pick-up truck with a missing headlight and damaged blinker light.Probably some damage to the front bumper, too.
Also, go into the Feed Mill and ask anyone in there if they can give you the name of someone in a bright blue Ford pickup truck. Watch their body language—someone out there in the Pelkie area may know who this guy is.
Good luck and I hope you do not experience any back or neck issues. When I was rear-ended on US 41, the back spasms did not begin until several weeks later. We pay a fortune for car insurance in Michigan so we are ensured for medical expenses incurred from un-insured motorists. This could apply to you and this accident.
Also, hit and run in any instance is an offense. When the other vehicle is a rural route delivery vehicle, that could end up being Federal Offense. (If you threaten someone using the US mail service, the Feds get involved….)

Oh my goodness! That is awful!!j. Just awful! I can’t imagine hitting someone and not stopping. I hope the police track the person down. Did they take pics and collect pieces of the truck? Wondering – because you said they were not helpful. I am sure they could be putting the word out to watch for a blue truck with front end damage. ( and possible green smudges) They probably are doing that. The mainthi g is- thank goodness you are ok. It could have been much worse with the person running a stop sign. I am sure it was very upsetting. Good that Paul came to help out!

Yes, I too am happy I am okay, and I hope that the truck and driver will be found. It is not a good thing for someone to act this way.
I am hopeful that the police know what they are doing and are doing their best to find the driver.
However, not taking the pieces from the other vehicle seemed weird to me.
I am like handing him this piece of the truck’s light, that has numbers and says “Ford” and the officer, is like “no thanks.”
It felt weird he wasn’t interested in pieces of this unknown vehicle.
And, it isn’t so much me and my jeep, but the next person who happens to be in the path of this truck. Anyone who leaves the scene of an accident, has something up. Thankfully most are more considerate.
Thanks for your concerns. The jeep can be fixed and is insured. I just am protective of the jeep, since you can’t buy right hand drive ones any more. I need this running for a few more years.
