  • From the Cocoon!

The Artist’s Way, while it is inspiring for Art, it is also bringing forth an artful self.  It is finding the dark spots where we lost the art of living, the art of being, the art of individuality, where we conformed into roles that are in direct competition to being a creation from self.

A self that lives behind the roles.

A self we set aside years ago for a variety of reasons.

This is the self we will find if we continue on The Artist’s Way…the path leads to self.

I have been disrobing from roles that made up most of who I was, and underneath was a girl who I didn’t know.  It is this girl who has been struggling to come alive, against the adverse conditioned mind.

This conditioned mind puts fear, guilt and shame along my pathway, sprinkled with false claims of a gloomy future, IF I dare make a new choice, explore and discover a new way of living.

I have been jousting with this mind for 6 ½ years now, seeing which one of us will win at each turn.  Even having the fight is a great improvement to the capitulations of the past, where I didn’t even to fight.

Now I have two separated ideals/beliefs/thoughts and desires vying for the chance to live as me.

I feel a huge percentage of me is now onboard with the self and just fragments and pieces of me are still tangled up with the mental mind.

The Artist’s Way is working to unhinge those parts as well as strengthen and ignite the ones already free!

I feel a huge part of me is flowing with the energy from the field of Art and pure potential, unlocked from the constraints of the mind.

Like a butterfly almost cleared from the cocoon!

  • Who we want to talk to.

I have watched myself in various conversations whether online, in person or on the phone, and I marvel at myself and its ability to respond or the lack thereof.

I find that I mostly enjoy dialogue in the present, and the first person. Stories of stories have me fade away or zone out.  I can’t seem to be present with a non-present story.

It is almost like having a front row seat to their minds, and them replaying what happened.

I guess I am much better in a happening place to have it going on in real time.

Real speak, real dialogue, not dialogue about dialogue.

And I was friend for a day with one lady, whose walk was similar to mine, but we viewed our healing totally opposite.  After a few exchanges, she de-friended me.

There can be fear when someone doesn’t see what you see, and it may be threatening to your pathway.  However, unless it gets personally draining or toxic raining, I can stay in and actually enjoy the exchange of different views.

I am more alive in a conversation where I am dancing around the same issue with someone who sees differently than if I am listening to a conversation about a conversation.

People are so revealing in conversations, about what they talk about, don’t talk about, or talk around, sometimes you can have a full conversation without ever seeing the person you are talking to…for they give you info about things, but not themselves.

I used to be interested in things, now I wait for the person to arrive, to step forth and to talk to me, to leave the ‘things’ behind and just show me their self.

It is almost like the mind talking and rambling along…and the real self is seldom revealed.

I can see that I challenge the mind and seek to go around it to find the real self.  Both in conversation with others but more importantly with me.

We can talk to our selves about things, or about what really matters, our truths, our fears, our dreams, our inner desires…we have to decide who we want to talk to.

  • My own Little Plot

It is hard to believe that I lived a life without a self that I had disappeared from my life and had not even noticed it, for I left my life before I had a life.

Without knowing I got a life of my own, I spent all my time in other people’s business, leaving my own life quite vacant.

    I simply didn’t live a separated life.

The biggest part of myself was lived in the midst of other people’s world, what I meant to them, how I made them feel, I was an interchangeable part to them.

I was a piece of them.

When I latched on to a person who needed me, I came alive.

Set me alone…I had no value.

Having zero value by myself left me very much dependent upon others, hence the word co-dependent, for my sense of self.

Finding a self that stood alone was near impossible.

I had no definition if the words sister, mother, daughter, wife, friend were not around.

    Who was I to myself?

I wasn’t as good a friend to me as I was to my friends, nor did I mother myself as wonderful as I tried to mother my children, nor was a good partner to myself as I was to my husband.

In the end all my efforts outside of myself left me completely empty…for I ignored my self while taking care of others.

Imagine 46 years with nothing to show for my self.

My self had lived silently still while I toiled in people’s lives.

It is like weeding and tending a garden that you are unable to eat from, leaving you starving while they enjoy the crop you took care of.

Slaving over their fields while my own was over run from neglect.

What freedom came when I understood we are all gardeners of our own lives, that each of us can plant the kinds of things we love, and pull up and out the things that prick us.

I love my life now that I see it as my own little plot!

  • Colored windows lose their beauty.

“A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still,” is a phrase that stops me from entering into a closed mind.

What I find so enthralling is that religion isn’t a thing it is a thought.

A thought, a wispy flighty jumble of words and it has the power to control a body and a family and a whole community a group and a bunch…just a few words.

You can open up a church door and not find ‘religion’ and you can open up a mind and not find it there either, it is nowhere to be found, yet people build their whole lives based upon it.

This illusive imaginative faith is as controlling as a dictator and yet there is no dictator to be found.

When someone dies where does their religion go?

Deepak Chopra says that you can dissect a brain and not find one single thought. And we know it isn’t held in our arms or legs, but yet we move like we are puppets on a string when we commit ourselves to a certain religion.

Our words are tempered, our voices rising in unison using the same phrases and following the same rules, our minds are synchronized to match.

Yet, when you take us apart no evidence will lay there.

In fact the only evidence of your religion is how you lived your life, your life’s trail is a clue.

What does your life’s trail look like?

Just as there are footprints I believe there are religion prints that showed how you traversed this life.

It shows what you leaped over or what you dodged, where you stopped and for how long, who you traveled with and why, your life history is your religious history.

My first 46 years of my life were led by this religion, it told me who to be with and who to shy away from, what to overlook and what to look towards, who to befriend and to unfriend, who to care for and who to be indifferent to, when to shun and when to embrace, when to talk and when to sing…it controlled my everything.

My body wasn’t mine it was a vehicle that I had to use to get to heaven and I had to do or not do certain things to it in order to arrive at Heaven’s gate.

Heaven’s gate was the total focus and life and my body were out to see that I wouldn’t make it, they worked against me at every turn.

It is my new understanding that what was working against my old religion was me. Me the individual, a me that wasn’t happy without a say.

It may be hard for folks to realize the ramifications of following a religion and how it leaves out the individual freedom, where your own intuition is squelched.

I was taught to not listen to my body and not to pay attention to the subtle and not so subtle messages it sent, to instead pull my attention away from the body and focus on the church.

The church knew the way for me…yet many times I went against it, in shame and guilt, doing what felt right to me.

It seems that the only way religion works is if they can control you mind body and soul. If the soul is alive if it has a whisper of breath, you will deviate off the path and be less controllable.

What is so maddening to me is that they take the lives of people but they don’t care about the people.

They are after the control, but not what they control. There is power when you control.

Just as Hitler wanted power, he was able to control people to kill people…imagine???

Perhaps religion has a kinder tone a more gentle approach a church it is housed in, with pretty glass windows, but it’s the overly sweetness that scares me.

The charismatic chairman whose actions of indifference trail behind him. To the preacher whose trail of raped boys lie in his wake…the pretty colored windows lose their beauty.

  • My Body, My mind and My Spirit.

Something magical happens when you are forced, as in my case, to stand without secrets, to be bare unto the world, to have nothing hidden out of sight, when your worst fears and beyond are realized, you are exposed and free.

I didn’t seem to have a choice, my incest was uncovered the same time that my father was exposed as a pedophile, and yet in the moment of time, while it seemed as if I would die in shame, I sprung forth with a new resolve to live openly and decided I would carry no more secrets in my pocket.

I would instead own this legacy of abuse and I would live my life fully aware of where I came from and how it formed me into who I was today. I understood all my idiosyncrasies and me perfectly, they were all birthed in abuse.

Once I accepted that all the mess was from where I grew, I could then begin to grow in ways that were different.

While you are holding on to secrets, the secrets are holding on to you and you are not free to heal and move beyond them, but once you agree that it is time for you to accept the truth of your roots, you begin changing out of abuse.

How tragically sad that we can’t share with the world our deepest wounds that unlike cancer it is a shameful disease and while we keep it hidden in the deep pockets of our bodies, our bodies are not free our spirits are not free and we are in a prison of silence.

Yet we hold the key that unlocks the door of shame. We have to be brave enough to align ourselves with our past’s reality. We have to have the courage to look upon the secrets that our families carry, our legacy that few will speak of but all know.

The truth is what sets you free…and the willingness to lose all you are, to become someone you have never met, the person you were prior to abuse.

My body and I have an agreement, we will no longer hide truths, we will speak our feelings always, regardless of the consequences, we have a bond now, a sacred bond, we are one…my body, my mind and my spirit.

  • What you see and say.

I am reading David Hawkins book “Reality, Spirituality and Modern Man” and here is something I found fascinating…

“The mind automatically assumes that it is continuously aware of reality, and it is unaware that what it considers to be reality, is actually own presumptive inner processing function that has been termed ‘the experiencer’ (Hawkins, 2000-2006).”

“Thus the data has already been automatically processed and edited via ego mechanisms within 1/10,000th of a second that have thereby added or subtracted value, meaning, and importance as well as emotional tone and shadings of memory and significance. What the ordinary mind presumes to be “truth” is actually a processed composite of thousands of variables of differing degrees with superimposed editing, selection, distortion, and emotionalized, preferential evaluation. This editing is done unconsciously in 1/10,000th of a second and is not eliminated or bypassed until one reaches Enlightenment (cal. 600 and above.)” David Hawkins

What I am extremely intrigued by is that our minds are already programmed to see that which we see and it is near impossible to interject a new idea especially in an old image.

Which explains why most folks will not change their minds about fathers/brothers/uncles etc that become abusive. Even if their bodies carry the emotions and fears, their minds will not allow them to change the words from father to pedophile, to change the truth.

What I am asking is for folks who don’t have this ironclad confused mind leading the charge, for the ones who can see and can speak to do so.

To speak up against this criminal behavior of child abuse, to step in front of the unseeing eyes and see the truth of what is going on and to alert someone.

We somehow sit in the position that someone in the family would speak IF something were going on. I am here to tell you it is near impossible for the abused and confused to stop this from the inside.

The rumor mill on the outside churns and spews forth lots of data, but rarely offers the details up to the Child Protective Services, we don’t want to ‘ruin’ a family.

Let me tell you a family that is riddled with sexual abuse is diseased and needs to be rescued. It needs the light of day to shine in and to halt the actions of the abuser; it needs you to say something. You are not ruining a loving family, but stopping the abuse from going on to generations upon generations. An abusive family isn’t a loving one.

You may not awaken all the folks within the family, but perhaps you can save one person, one child…

What I know to the dept of my soul, if you on the outside treat the pedophile as normal, then we believe we are nuts.

If you on the outside would reflect what we know, “that something is wrong” then we are set free…we are looking for another view, one that honors the fear and yuck factor we feel.

When you continue on as if nothing is wrong, as if this man is okay, if you continue to perform ‘normal treatment’ of him, we are left in a sea of abuse.

We are counting on your clear eyes and words to set us free…

Some will be awakened and others will be incapable of finding the space before the mind takes over and eliminates your truth, but speak it anyway, for you never know if there is one there that can and will be saved by what you see and say.

  • Unbelievers Live Free.

In my old religion, those who left the church or perhaps those who never entered were called Unbelievers.

These Unbelievers didn’t believe like we did, and in doing so didn’t move about the planet like us. They were ‘allowed’ to do things that good Believers were not allowed to do.

Unbelievers were easy to spot, they had pierced ears, painted fingernails, colored hair, they were allowed to do things with their bodies we were not allowed to do.

Unbelievers also had a say in how many children they would have, or if they wanted any. They had freedoms in their lives we didn’t have.

You could almost see the Believers being stuck and the Unbelievers being free.

It all began and ended with my mind.

When I believed my mind, its thoughts and its beliefs, I gave up my body and my free will. When I didn’t believe, when I became an Unbeliever, I had my freedom back.

It resembles an addiction in how it takes over your life.

My mind became addicted to limiting thoughts.

What is so extremely debilitating is how we are afraid to not believe those thoughts, for those thoughts were taught to us from a very young age.

The thoughts and beliefs become who we are, and to let them go seems to be killing yourself.

Being held prisoner in your own life by thoughts is being the jailer and the jailed.

You have to become an Unbeliever to be set free.

We were taught; Unbelievers go to Hell, so who wants to be free only to spend eternity in Hell.

Isn’t there a saying “What is bound on Earth is bound in Heaven”?

Being bound on earth is how I lived for the first 46 years of my life, being a good Believer of a very mind controlling religion.

Becoming unbound has been a long process and one that has brought me much peace, love and joy…

Unbelieving is unraveling the ties that bind.

    Unbelievers live free.

  • Meet your Truth.

Remember playing with magnets as a child, and how they would either click together or be repelled apart?

I was reminded of magnets as my friend talked about situations we get into in relationships, where we are going along with mutual attraction and then somehow we get flipped around and now are being repelled apart.

I recalled the magnet’s inner wisdom was much smarter than our strength, no matter what we did; they knew when they matched or when one of them was turned the wrong way, in order to click together they had to be facing the right way.

And it was fun to feel the push away from these seemingly innate objects, like they had a mind of their own.

The image of my friend’s hands and how they moved to resemble magnets stayed with me as I looked at my husband and myself and how we seemed at odds, and how we trying to realign ourselves.

It seemed his truth and my truth didn’t match, and our bodies knew, repelling replaced our old attraction.

My body has a magnet of its own and the flesh is just a covering on top and beneath my skin is this energy field that knows things my wandering mind misses.

And my mind has learned that by faking it or pretending to be okay when the body is not, is fruitless for what I seek most is for the body to teach my mind.

I listen and receive signals of distress or of peace.

In the past I was the opposite; I turned away from the signals and bull headedly marched on, heedless to the discomfort my body screamed.

My mind that had been taught what to believe, what was right and what was wrong and it neglected to seek counsel of my body. In fact the body, I was taught, was full of sin and it had the devils magnetic field that would pull us asunder.

You would go to Hell if you followed your body; Heaven was to be gained by following your mind.

Your body was your greatest enemy.

As I write this, I know that my childhood religion was threatened by the wise wisdom of this knowing body.

Imagine the wonderful creation of God, this highly functioning self-healing living breathing body being the devils property?

What the religion was teaching was to go against the magnetic pull of my own body.

With this being my background I as accustomed of turning away from my body, of shunning its desires and passions and neglecting the wise inner gut feelings and focusing instead of following the masses, the church leader and listening to what he and they felt was best for me.

Stepping away from my body I lived disconnected and out of touch…I worked religiously against my own magnetic pull.

Imaging going against your own truth!

It is incredible to me that we all have these wonderful magnets that are infused into all our cells, and they know what is true.

If you use your body like this big lie detector or treat it like a magnet for truth that it is, your life will be less complicated.

I watched my daughter and how she appeared physically in our world while she lived a lie. Like a diseased plant she began to fail.

What I notice about my body is it likes it when I speak the truth, even if the truth sounds bad, it cheers.

When I was on our local school board and the president of the board lived in another city, but was on our board, it made sense to my body to say, “You have a pretend house in Chassell, so you can be legitimately on our board.” I told him, a man who pretended to live here and who had a fake home in our town were directing me on the board.

My body felt better being there with the truth hanging out. And I knew better than putting trust or faith in a pretending man.

So, even if you can’t make moves to get out from beneath the lies don’t lie about your situation; give your body the full report.

It is not the actual reality that distresses the body, but us telling the body it isn’t really there. It likes to have a well-balanced reality accounting sheet.

I love that I am aware of my body’s magnet and how its preset to the truth, how I can rely on it subtle and not so subtle readings, how it vibrates at a certain note to gain my attention, letting me know when I am not seeing or being in truth.

My Universe and this magnet are connected and both dance perfectly in harmony with reality.

My body thrives best in the reality of truth and I speak reality’s harshest truths with great courage for I now what happens when I don’t. I get repelled away from peace, love and joy.

My magnet is set uniquely for me and I get anxious and scared when lies pile up and truth seems far away…

Namaste, means the Spirit in me recognizes the Spirit within you…what I believe maybe more beneficial is my truth wants to meet your truth.

  • Selfishly I Respectfully Do Not Care!

“I respectfully do not care!” is a new quote I heard from Martha Beck as she spoke today on the Lisa Oz radio show.

People have told her (Martha) that in order to promote and sell books and to keep her selling herself she needs to be on facebook, twitter and the like, but doing so has made her sick, physically sick with shingles.

She found that she can talk with her daughter, and if her daughter feels her mom says something profound, her daughter will post it online.

Martha has total trust in her body and she was getting physically sick doing what others wanted her to do, but what wasn’t natural or feeling right for her.

When she says, “I respectfully do not care,” it means I respect what you are saying, it’s not for me.

    I love that.

She is following and listening to her body.

This may be my second favorite quote from her and it validates that you heard the request, but don’t care.

Don’t care if all are doing this, me and my body are not okay with it,

“I respectfully do not care” almost sounds like what I tell my children. I respectfully do not care if all the kids are doing it you are not. (when the other kids parents didn’t care and we had different rules.)

This phrase actually gives you the freedom to be an individual, to follow the signals of your body, to listen to the inner knowing, to care more about yourself than others.

Selfishly I respectfully do not care!

  • The Only Place I Can Be.

I am wondering about the Bug called Worry and how it can bite at anytime, how it can sneak up and take you out of any enjoyment you may be experiencing or perhaps not even let you go to enjoyment, instead you dance and waltz with Worry.

My brother spoke of a Panic Attack, would this be an attack from the Worry Bug?

That out of nowhere this bug sneaks in and steals your peace, attacking this moment of time?

When I found myself right side up in what felt like my upside down world, it was a world that opposed what the bug dreamed up.

It seemed like there were two worlds, the Mind Bug and Reality.

This Mind/Worry Bug was relentless, and what I did was to take that bug and slam it with Reality over and over again, showing it what is.

I literally had to put pen to paper to see what this Damn Bug wanted me to do.

Mostly it pulled me away from my life and into lives I had no control over, it ripped me away from my peaceful home doing what I loved to do, to go into someone’s life I had no business being in. It painted people in colors that were so off color from what they were actually like and then had me worrying about letting them go.

Maybe its nickname could also be Meddling or Hell.

Even today I may take a quick trip with it and see a future fear or horrid life, a sad and lonely existence, but it feels so bad, I yank myself back and hold on to something in my nowadays world.

If you had to pick this Worry Bug out of a lineup what would it look like, where does it live, how does it operate and who invented this???

I am sure some religions call this Bug the Devil.

What I think it is an untrained mind. A mind that is totally out of your control and one that hates reality.

This bug lives anywhere but in the here and now.

In the past six years I have been treating this mind like an unruly child, and find that I can oppose many of its thoughts and when it comes in and tromps into a moment of enjoyment, I can listen for a moment, but can make the choice as to what to believe.

As a woman who lived for many years in the land of pretend, I find great comfort and peace in the land called reality.

It is here that the Bug has a hard time beating; it usually falls down when faced with what is.

Byron Katie says, “Reality wins only but 100% of the time!”

I welcome this bug into my reality, but I usually have a dialogue with it before I head out into the land of unknown.

When I find myself powerless, stressed and out of sorts, you can be damn sure that the Mind/Worry Bug has led me astray from reality.

What I do to bring me back is grab on to anything that I can hold onto and be with my breath. For where my breath is the bug can’t be.

Where am I breathing, who is here now, what is going on, feeling my reality as a blind person uses Braille; I settle back into Now.

For Now…is the only place I can be.
