Fourteen years ago I was the keynote speaker at the Dial Help Annual Fundraiser. Well, my storyline quilts were also part of the speech.
It is hard to believe that 14 years have passed and that there still is so much silence when it comes to sexual abuse.

Even I have grown silent.
There is an imagine in your mind that when you speak up – the world will change – and it did – for me.
Over these many years – I have grown more confident and have found a new world to live in. I am still a fiber Artist but mostly now it is for fun. Well that and art therapy. It just calms me down to play with fabric. Or actually it gives my mind something to think about.
At some point I would like to figure out a way for these storyline quilts to be on tour- perhaps to mental health places.
I know that there are many who are trying to find their way out of the effects of childhood sexual abuse – or like me – a combination of sexual abuse and religious trauma.

What I still know for sure is that this part of my journey has been the hardest more rewarding thing I have ever done. And, I know it has and will have an impact on the generations who come after me.
My goals after becoming aware of my abuse – was to not let It define me, but to go forth with Love, Peace and Joy.
I have done that. A friend who is in her 80’s is on the journey’s end and she reminds me that it is the simple things we will miss the most.
We all have an ending on this journey and I hope I can do mine with grace. Until then – it is best we all live like we are dying.

I Love and honor you, Ann.
The journey after speaking out – has given me many wonderful wise and empowered women friends. The colors of my life!
